The Chelsea boot was a type of riding boot that dated back to the women of the Victorian era. With its distinguishing elasticated side panels, it was a very innovative design and allowed women to slip on their ankle shoes in an easier manner. The trend soon spread to the cities, then died out; but, of course, was reborn in the 1960s with British fashion. The name Chelsea arose out of the area of England, where the trend seemed to be picked up again. Overtime, the Mods developed the style for both men and women and was synonymous for rock acts such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
